Each individual has a right to "the highest attainable health," yet there are so many barriers that stand in the way. Barriers stem not only from physiology but also from policies, perceptions and culture. If health is, in the World Health Organization's definition, "a dynamic state of complete physical, mental, spiritual and social well-being," the promotion of health requires barriers throughout this continuum to be addressed. Much like the WHO, Chinese medicine views the individual as a relationship between the body, mind and social connections.
Resonating with this cohesive perspective, I studied Traditional Chinese Medicine, where I gained an empirical understanding of wellness. This model of medicine along with a degree in Public Health and Health Sciences led me to determine that true health can only be achieved by addressing the root causes of illness. Using a traditional medicine model grounded in modern science, I seek to empower patients with knowledge of how their lifestyle, community and beliefs impact their well-being. Addressing health from this interwoven continuum, I strive to help patients improve their health and their health-span.
